Practice Against Sustainability, Contemporary Pedagogies and Digital and Collaborative Learning Approaches.

Education has changed a lot through period of time, especially in the digital era, to meet the changing needs of global society. It can be seen that there is a significant shift towards student-centered learning, and a recognition of the importance of preparing students for a changing world. In this essay, I will critically examine these modern and innovative educational trends, explore the crucial role of digital collaboration in English education, assess my own teaching practices against these principles, and evaluate how sustainability is integrated into this context.

Critically Analyzing Contemporary Thinking in English Education

Unlike traditional methods where teachers are the primary knowledge providers, contemporary education requires learners has to be active in the role of constructing their understanding. Modern pedagogy places learners at the center of the educational process. This change reflects the belief that learners in the contemporary world need more skills to adapt to the

Example: In previous years, a traditional English class context, a teacher could be a man source of knowledge, acts like a live dictionary and that teacher might focus solely on grammar rules and sentence structures. The lesson has continued until the end of the year. In a contemporary approach, I encourage students to engage in collaborative projects, such as preparing for a grammar point presentation in front of class using Microsoft office like Power point. This creates a good habit in searching and collecting useful, and rightful information. Then I will be the one who summarizes and gives feedback for each group’s presentation. Every member in group has different roles in creating the project: a collector data, a presenter, a designer, an analyst, but everyone has the right to give opinion on others’ work.

Contemporary English education also places a strong emphasis on developing critical thinking skills. In today world, students must learn to critically assess sources, analyze context, and then tasked with developing solutions to address the issues they identify.

Example: Rather than memorizing vocabulary lists, I ask students to use new words in the context given by teacher or by themselves to check that their understanding is right They are encouraged to engage in group discussions, with the same vocabularies, but different context, providing evidence from the text to support their interpretations.

The Role of Digital Collaboration in English Education

The approach of digital technology in English education plays a vital role in providing learners a wide range of access to numerous resources, facilitating communication, and enabling personalized learning experiences., when groups of learners and teachers work together to complete a task, solve a problem, or create a product, collaborative learning occurs. (Laal & Ghodsi, 2012)

Collaborative learning in English classrooms encourages active participation, peer learning, and the development of communication skills as well.

Example: My school has an online web page that provide an online learning system, where teachers post constructive questions on each topic. Students have to prepare their own answers by searching and collecting data on the internet. At the end of every period, students and teacher give feedbacks for individual and group as well as grade them. This platform enables students to work together on literary analyses or debate topics related to given topic. This collaborative experience enhances their understanding of complex texts and hones their ability to express their thoughts coherently.

Evaluating My Practice Against Digital Collaboration in English Education

I think my integration of digital collaboration in English education has been effective. I use various online platform to encourage interaction and knowledge sharing among students. Padlet is one of the tools helps educators facilitate students’ writing. By the way of expressing students thought in writing, this tool works effectively in stimulating students’ views. They can share their ideas and interact with other classmates by giving comment, feedback directly. This collaborative teaching tool has been applied widely in educational context and also foster students’ understanding. Furthermore, interaction among educators and students online contributes to learning outcomes and satisfaction that leads to better engagement among students. (Chiero et al & Fedynich et al, 2015). However, that not all students can actively participate in online learning, they could look at their other friends’ ideas and copy the ideas and then represent it in other words.

Sustainability in education is a wide range topic which means more than just environmental concerns. It could be about social, and economic sustainability and the practice of applying these concerns into teaching and learning process to promote each individual to become a responsible citizen, and make sure that learners can continue to engage with it effectively through time.
